That's kind of a weird way of doing it. Once I have the objects aligned I select the source object for the center (DJ's bike in this case), use Shift+S > Cursor to Selected. This moves the 3d cursor to the center. Select your object, and press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+C > Origin to 3d Cursor. This will move the center to the 3d cursor.
