Flip the normal map channels really taking away from the model which im sure is great with its maps the correct way .

Wich need flipped? Not bad for your first screeny. Shadows were/are the most difficult thing to master. Keep messing around and trying stuff and you will find a way to get them how you want. Just takes time. Keep it up.
