Supercross Track Comp - Discussion

Post by DJ99X »

Lets get the ball rolling for this SX track comp shall we?

Pitch some ideas on requirements, restrictions, judging etc.

Here's what I think:
  • SX tracks can be set at any time of day
  • Tracks don't have to be in a stadium
  • Average lap times must be between 40 seconds and 1 Minute 30 seconds.
  • Tracks can be created by teams of any size
  • Tracks cannot be replicas. This comp is based on creativity

I think we'll officially start the comp at the end of the month, then close the comp sometime before christmas.

Who would be keen to enter? I know a few people prefer making SX tracks to MX, so I think we should have a few entries.

I'm probably going to go solo this time. I reckon it will be fun :)

Max height should be 25 feet.

I might be down to make a track.

What's your definition of Supercross?

A traditional stadium style track or a backyard rhythm style track? I'd love to incorporate some hills and outdoorish speed style sections into a supercross track, but I don't think that'd qualify. Sort of like the Vegas SX but with more speed and MX influence.

I'm in for sure. Are previously started tracks acceptable? And I think that we should have a set weighed voting scale before the comp begins so everyone can be aware of what is exactly going into peoples scores.

I'm not keen on the idea of forced teams. I'd like to go solo personally. More tracks this way!

Well, I was more thinking in the style of stadium/test track style. I personally believe the tracks shouldnt have any natural terrain.

I'd rather it be a fresh track. The SX tracks dont take as much time to make as an SX, so I reckon people should be forced to start from scratch.

Yes, I agree on getting the weighting set before we start. As SX tracks can be hard to make, I think the weighting should mostly go to the way the track rides. This can be split up into Design (the layout of the track) and Build Quality (how well it was made). So, how about this for weighting:

Design: 33.3%
Build Quality: 33.3%
Visuals: 33.3%

That way, the displacement takes up 66% of the score.

I also think the displacement map resolution should be capped to 2049x2049 pixels. I really should have done this for the MX track comp as well, because it makes tracks quite laggy. But really, using a 2049 disp for an SX is a waste anyways.

A 2049^2 disp for a sx track is ridiculous, the track is either going to have an unnecessarily high level of detail, or is going to waste a lot of space, or is going to be too long for the criteria.
Cap it at 1025 i say

Ahhhhh nuts. I meant to say 1025. Look at Goardy's Indy track if you dont think 1025 gives enough detail...
