Anti-Earth Natural Freeride Area

Post by jlv »

I was playing around with gimp trying to make more interesting random terrains and came up with this. I wasn't planning on posting it but it's fun enough to ride that it seems like a waste not to.

The method used to create it:

1. Fill the background layer with solid noise. Dim it to 33%.
2. Make a new layer, set it to add mode and fill it with noise.
3. Add a mask to the new layer, noise it, and threshold the noise.
4. Lower the brightness to 33%.
5. Add another layer the same way.
6. Save it to terrain.png and set the min/max heights in terrain.hf to 10 and 100
7. In the MX Sim editor, smooth the entire terrain at strength - 8, submode - raise only a few times.
8. Smooth again at strength - 4, submode - assign.

Feel free to use this terrain as a base for a real track.

I wish there were more tracks like this one. Maybe with some more textures, a gravel path leading to a whip hill side or a big hillclimingarea :D Would love to do some "high marking" on mx sim, allthough your mark isn't very visable on a bike compared to a snowmobile  (its a snowmobile sport)

i love stuff like this. idk tho on this one. id like to think im pretty creative and can make a line out of any hill or lip. but im struggling to link up anything cool on this map. i think everything is too spread out and doesnt really vary enough. stuff needs to be packed together a little more for more transitions. dont get me wrong i sitll enjoy it. i probably rode around on it for 2 hours straight last night.

If you want to make a similar terrain only tighter, increase X Size and Y Size in the noise settings. You can really mix things up a lot by tweaking the noise parameters.
