r9 280x vs gtx770
r9 280x vs gtx770
Iv always have had AMD for 10 years now, but lately AMD drivers have been driving me up the wall, but star citizen and some other main titles support AMD more, thats whats keeping me back from NVIDIA.
my build right now.
1090t BE six core OC 3.8
MSI 990FXA-GD80
Patriot Viper 1866 8 gigs
Sapphire 7870 Oc GHz edition
SSD 120gb
HD 500gb
also looking at a FX-8350 Black Edition
just looking for the best bang for the buck. and AMD is usually the way to go.
thoughts?

Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
I have a R9 280X, and to be honest I am not happy with it at all. Yes, when it first came out I was exicted because I mostly play Battlefield games, and Mantle was suppost to increase my performance but I didnt really see results considering my CPU is at 4.6 stable 24/7. I would go with Nvidia. Im planning on getting a 980 soon aswell.
Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
r 280x is the same gpu as the hd7970. It's better than a gtx770, for sure. Your CPU is not "high" and mantle could be great for you too..
the 7970 aka 280x on mantle can run bf4 at same fps as a 780ti on dx11 in 1080p... If you are looking for perf/price, go for AMD 200%

Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
Mantle only shows performance increase with low performance CPU's. That's the way it was designed. If Pulse is going to get a 8350 BE, there would be no point in buying AMD GPU. Unless he is still hooked on those titles not supported by Nvidia.Cobra wrote:r 280x is the same gpu as the hd7970. It's better than a gtx770, for sure. If your modeling and doing a lot of Photoshop, go for Nvidia. If you're mainly gaming, go with AMD.

Overview of the r9 280x
Hope this helped with making your decision.

Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
Its hard to argue with the performance level of the AMD GPUs for the cost. Nvidia does perform better at more workstation oriented tasks so that is why I have been buying them over AMD. In reality you would probably be happy with either one since you wont have the other one to directly compare it to and both are good cards.
What are the rest of the components? I am assuming that this is an existing system that you are upgrading?

What will you be using the PC for? If you are looking for good performance in MXS a 770 4GB model will be better suited.
Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
At that point might as well buy a 970 since they are 4gb and only $10 more. Its a lot more card for the money IMO.Hi Im Skyqe wrote:What will you be using the PC for? If you are looking for good performance in MXS a 770 4GB model will be better suited.

Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
Well performance wise for most games yes however there is a catch if you play sim. The max anti aliasing you can run in Nvidia Control Panel on the 900 series is 8x vs 16x on prior series of cards. You can get some 16x settings by using Nvidia inspector however it does not run as smooth. This I am sure can be added to the control panel if enough people complain.SMR 510RR wrote:At that point might as well buy a 970 since they are 4gb and only $10 more. Do the 285's scale well and how tight of a fit is it in the case? Always wanted to talk someone into a BitFenix Prodigy build and let me do it. Looks like such a fun case.
Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
why not just by one 970 and save yourself the troubles of crossfire?pulse wrote:well im selling my pc to a buddy and

The 970 is a beast with low temps and low power consumption.
Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
I was going to build my work PC in one but there are a few odd decisions that make the case horrible IMO. The lack of cable management and why in the hell did they put the IO on the right side aka the side that comes off? Makes absolutely no sense. I think the regular prodigy is a little nicer but I was checking out the Prodigy M.Pumaxcs wrote:Do the 285's scale well and how tight of a fit is it in the case? Re: r9 280x vs gtx770
I agree a lot of odd choices but I really like the look of the Prodigy. Just a mini build in general seems really cool.
