Vancouver 2010

Post by kwic73 »

Well "The Games" are just around corner and since I live in Vancouver and I get a day off from school to watch the tourch relay, I'm pretty excited. What are your thoughts?

You live in vancouver? no kiddin haha I live in Port Angeles, washington (US) and this little town is right on the coast line. Right in front of vancouver island. I can look out my window and see vancouver island from where my house is because there is only like a 10-20 mile stretch of pacific ocean between us.

 It looks like it's going to be a sad winter game's.
For the first time in history dies someone at the wintergame's.
21 year old solo Bobsleigh rider Nodar Kumaritashvili died while practicing on the track.

I wanna warn you for the horror movie http://www.buzzfeed.com/akdobbins/nodar ... luge-crash.

When I watch the movie I'm asking if the track is safe enough.
Okay ... their are walls of 80-100CM high. But still, those METAL poles are standing only 1M away from the track + each 5-7M is their is standing a pole.
If you know that these guys are flying down at 100-120km/h I think it isn't rly smart to put any hard object so close to a track.

Anyway, RIP Nodar and a lot of strenght to the family.
And pls God, let this be the only victim on the whole game's. Broken bone's and stuff, I don't care, that stuff heals... but this is just horrible.

RIP Nodar

This is a really sad way to start the winter olympics. Having those poles there is just begging for trouble!

Definitely a Major desing flaw in the track. The investigation ended today, and they have decided that human error on the luger's part was the cause of the accident. That may be so, but hitting the metal piling at approx. 90 mph was defintely the fatal blow. Tragic news.

Even if he didn't hit the pole he still would have gotten F'd up. Either way, it's pretty ridiculous.

yeah but F'd up is better than death...

anyway, some news about changes.. http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-feature ... 2058.html?
Other changes were made overnight, including raising the wall at Curve 16, the area where Kumaritashvili crashed; some modifications were also made to the surface of the ice itself. When training resumed from the lower start, American Tony Benshoof - the first man to slide in the session - navigated the track without incident.
