WMSA 4: New format for online racing (READ THIS)
Alright gents, I'm starting to organize everything for the 4th WMSA series, which will be run online with multiplayer.
I'm going to try to describe this as best as i can. Just read through it all and comprehend as best as you can.
First, let me get a couple things straight:
1. There will be no more class structure. You'll find out why after you read this.
2. This is only going to work if everyone cooperates!
3. There will be a predetermined day and time that this will happen every week.
4. I may include a prize as an incentive to attend every week. Not sure what this will be yet.
5. We also need a lobby system for this to work. I need to be able to communicate with everyone at once. Maybe a chat room or dedicated tournament lobby as a new tab on this website?
Alright. The new layout will be a "Round Robin" format. If you played MCM2 and a little bit of MXU and MVA, you may recognize this format. It works REALLY WELL, and keeps the action and fun flowing throughout the series. The winners are always the most consistently FAST guys, and that's how it should be. Consistency wins here.
Here's how it works:
There will be 3 Heat races and 2 Main Events every week. Everyone will race a total of 5 races on race day.
The Heat races will be short races of equal laps (think of these as qualifying races: read on).
The Main Events will be around 10 minutes each.
I will have at least 3 servers going every round. Depending on how many people show up, each server will be occupied equally, with a max of 9 per server (this may change, but for now leave it at that).
===For heat 1, you will get placed randomly in any of the 3 (or however many) servers. You will then race a short race.
This means, there will be (Heat 1, Server 1), (Heat 1, Server 2), (Heat 1, Server 3) etc. 3 races will occur simultaneously for heat 1.
The results from heat 1 determine where you get placed for heat 2.
The top 3 finishers (1st - 3rd) from every server will be placed in server 1 for heat 2. (Heat 2, Server 1)
The middle 3 finishers from every server will be placed in server 2 for heat 2. (Heat 2, Server 2)
The bottom 3 finishers from every server will be placed in server 3 for heat 2. (Heat 2, Server 3)
===Heat 2 will then start. Everyone runs heat 2 in their newly assigned server.
The results from heat 2 will determine where you get placed for heat 3. This will follow a 3-up, 3-down format.
The top 3 finishers (1st - 3rd) from every server will move up one server level. (from 3 to 2, or from 2 to 1)
The middle 3 finishers from every server will stay in the same server they were in for heat 2.
The bottom 3 finishers from every server will move down one server level. (from 1 to 2, or from 2 to 3).
Heat 3 will then start. Everyone runs heat 3 in their newly assigned server.
The results apply the same way (3-up, 3-down) going into Main Event 1.
Main event 1 will then start. Everyone races Main event 1 in their newly assigned server.
The results from Main Event 1 follow the same 3-up, 3-down format going into Main Event 2.
Main Event 2 will then start. Everyone races Main event 2 in their newly assigned server.
The results are recorded.
The Results from Main 1 and Main 2 are combined in a (#-#) format, and points are awarded accordingly.
Main Events in server 1 hold places 1st - 9th
Main Events in server 2 hold places 10th - 18th
Main Events in server 3 hold places 19th - 27th
and so on...
1st place- 50 points
2nd place- 48 points
3rd place- 47 points
and so on....
This means everyone is racing against EVERYBODY.
WHY THIS WORKS!
1. The heats are like qualifying events, sorting out riders by speed and consistency.
2. You are pretty much always racing guys of your skill level (except in heat 1, where you are randomly placed)
3. The series will run a lot more smoothly.
4. Everyone will have a lot more fun.
5. It allows you to shine on tracks that you are good at.
Let me know what you think guys. This worked really well for MCM2.

i have a question. Will this somewhat private. Like invite only so we dont get random scrubs in our races?

That is surely a concern. I want to allow everyone to join this, as i feel its an exciting way to get new riders to enjoy the racing scene. Rammers and crashers are going to be immediately banned from the tournament, however.JonesMx 221 wrote:i have a question. Will this somewhat private. Yeah sounds like an awesome idea...
What are you going to do about the servers? Are you going to run them all yourself in the same area or will there be different servers from around the world which would mean different amounts of ping people get from each server

Sounds good to me. Not sure if I'll be able to race them though.
Sween, he said max of 9 per server for now.

Ok I missed that the first time.
So 27 max riders? timed practices (lap times) for the heats?

Re: WMSA 4: New format for online racing (READ THIS)
If he needs im sure he would add more servers if possible
Re: WMSA 4: New format for online racing (READ THIS)
Heck, if I am available at the right time, I'll host some more servers. Might only be able to run 6-7 a server though
